Senior engineering for teams that have to deliver.

We get called in when large projects need experience: to reinforce existing development teams, for architecture decisions, and for software that runs in production afterwards. Web, mobile, backend.

digitalkompetent is a remote-first software engineering team from Germany. We support existing development teams in large projects with senior expertise and build web and mobile applications for founders and mid-sized companies, using TypeScript, Python, Django, React Native and Kubernetes, and integrate AI into existing products.

A 10-minute call is enough to tell you whether we can build your project. If yes, we deliver fast: first results often within a week.

01 / services

What we get called in for.

01

Reinforcing your tech team

Your project is large, the schedule is tight, and the team needs people who are productive immediately. We join running projects as external senior engineers, take ownership of modules, architecture and reviews, and work in your repo, your board and your standup. This is what we are booked for most often.

Typical
2 to 5 days a week over several months, at public agencies, enterprises and scale-ups, frontend, backend or mobile.
Duration
From 3 months, cancellable monthly. Many engagements have been running for years.

02

MVP and product development

You have an idea and need a product real users can test in days, not months. We build web app, mobile app and backend from one team, on a stack that keeps growing afterwards instead of being thrown away.

Typical
Next.js or Django on the backend, React Native for iOS and Android, Postgres, deployed on Hetzner or AWS.
Duration
First release in 1 to 2 weeks, a solid MVP in 4 to 8 weeks.

03

Modernizing existing software

Your application works, but nobody dares to touch the code anymore. We analyze, wrap the existing system in tests, and replace it step by step, no big bang, no downtime.

Typical
Monolith to clear modules, PHP or jQuery to TypeScript, servers to containers, adding the CI that never existed.
Duration
A 1 to 2 week review with findings and plan first, then implementation in stages.

04

AI integration that holds up in production

We build AI into existing products: pipelines, prompting with tests, automatically generated content with a review step, connection to your data. With the models and tools that fit the case, not the loudest tool of the week. No slop, no vibe coding.

Typical
LLM APIs, RAG on your own data, evaluation pipelines, Python and TypeScript.
Duration
Proof of concept in 1 to 2 weeks, production afterwards.

02 / principles

Rules we impose on ourselves.

No methodology folklore. This is what applies in every one of our repos, and what you can expect in your project.

  1. 01 Types everywhere.

TypeScript strict, Python with type hints and mypy. We find errors while writing, not in production.

  2. 02 No merge without review and green CI.

Tests, lint and typecheck run on every push. Red doesn't ship.

  3. 03 Deploys are boring.

Containers, infrastructure as code, rollback with one click. We deploy several times a day, just not on Fridays.

  4. 04 You see everything.

Your repo, your board, your servers. We work inside your infrastructure, not in a black box.

  5. 05 Boring technology, chosen deliberately.

Postgres instead of the database of the month. A framework that will still be maintained in five years. New tools only when they solve a concrete problem.

  6. 06 Something finished every week.

Every week a state you can click through. Not slides, not status emails.

03 / stack

What we work with.

Only technologies currently running in production with us. No logo wall.

Frontend

  • TypeScript

The default for everything that runs in a browser.

  • React, Next.js

For products with heavy interaction and SSR needs.

  • HTMX, Alpine.js

When a server-rendered product is enough and a React bundle would be overkill.

  • Tailwind CSS

A design system as tokens, no CSS arguments.

Backend

  • Node.js, NestJS

Typed APIs in the same ecosystem as the frontend.

  • Python, Django

When admin, ORM and auth should exist on day one.

  • PostgreSQL

For almost everything. Redis next to it when needed.

Mobile

  • React Native

One codebase for iOS and Android when the team already speaks React.

  • Flutter

When UI performance and custom rendering matter more than web proximity.

  • Swift

When the product has to be native iOS.

AI integration

  • LLM-APIs

OpenAI, Anthropic and open-source models, depending on data protection requirements and the task.

  • RAG, pgvector

Answers from your own data instead of the model's memory.

  • Prompt-Pipelines

Versioned, tested, evaluated. Prompting is code.

  • Content-Automation

Automatically generated content with a review step. No slop.

Infrastructure

  • Docker

Every application runs the same everywhere.

  • Hetzner

For most projects the right mix of price, performance and EU location.

  • AWS

When managed services or compliance requirements demand it.

  • GitHub Actions

CI for all of the above.

05 / team

Two founders who still write code.

  • Ben Schüller

Managing Director · Infrastructure, mobile apps, frontend

Builds the infrastructure our products run on, and the apps along with it: React Native, Flutter and the frontend to match.

  • Florian Plonsky

Managing Director · Backend, infrastructure, product

Owns backends, architecture and the product behind them, from the first requirement to the running system.

Depending on the project, up to three more developers from our network join, people we have known for years and whose code we review.

06 / faq

What clients ask us first.

Do you join running projects?
Yes, that is our most common case. We step into existing codebases and teams, mostly in large projects at public agencies, enterprises and scale-ups, and are productive after the first week.
Do you work remotely?
Yes, fully. We are based in Berlin and Brandenburg and work with clients all over Germany. For kick-offs and workshops we come to you.
What does an MVP cost?
That depends on scope and platforms. After a first conversation you get an estimate with a range, not a flat number without basis.
Do you take over existing code?
Yes. We start with a one to two week review, after which you know what the code is worth and what the rebuild costs.
Which technologies do you use?
TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, NestJS, Python, Django, React Native, Flutter, Swift, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, Hetzner and AWS. The full list with reasons is above under Stack.
How fast do you reply?
Within one business day. In a 10-minute call we tell you whether and how we would build your project. First results often arrive within a week.
Do you work with teams outside Germany?
Yes, in English and within European time zones. Contracts and invoices go through the German GmbH.
